Travel visas can take a substantial amount of time to procure, so please plan accordingly. Please note that entry and visa requirements differ depending on your country of citizenship and residency.
Visa-Exempt Countries and Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
Many travelers do not need a visa to visit Canada for short stays (usually up to six months) for tourism purposes. However, visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to Canada must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding their flight. Applying for an eTA is a simple online process that typically takes only a few minutes. Most applicants get approval within minutes, but some requests may take several days if additional documents are needed. You will need your passport, a credit or debit card, and an email address.
Applying for a Canada Visitor Visa
If your country of citizenship is not visa-exempt, you must apply for a visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa - TRV) to enter Canada. Please refer to this website for more general information about Canada visitor visas.Applying for a Canadian visa consists of three (3) main steps:
- Completing the necessary paperwork for your visa application
- Making an appointment at your local Canadian Embassy or Consulate
- Attending your visa application appointment
The order of these steps and how you complete them may vary by Canadian Embassy or Consulate.
Visa Appointment Wait Times
