Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board member:

Nearly 14 years work experience as a licensed attorney-at-law, I have served more than 10 FORTUNE 500 multinational enterprises, more than 50 middle sized foreign invested enterprises and some state-owned enterprises, in dealing with legal issues mainly related to corporate law, intellectual property law, and compliance. This experience brings me the valuable skills in strategic thinking, risk control and financial supervision, which are applicable to board service. This not just enables me to communicate cross cultures effectively, but also be able to understand problems in district related (not limited) to law.

What experience do you have in strategic planning?

As a licensed attorney-at-law, my role is not only a problem solver, but also a strategic planner. Take foreign direct investment for example, I have drafted many investment plans, intellectual property right system, Merge & Acquisition plan. As a Toastmasters district officer, when I was the Club Growth Director of D85, I led my team to set the district marketing strategic plan, which includes the district will be reformed 5 years later, and the district shall give more support to the cities around the core city. Now, after 5 years, the district has submitted the reformation application, and the club scale of the core city to the other cities is nearly 1 to 1.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

As a licensed attorney-at-law, I am very familiar with finance, accounting, and taxation. I have assisted enterprises in dealing with many non-compliance issues, which are mainly related to finance fraud. I have also assisted enterprises to design the taxation planning.

What experience do you have in developing policies?

With more than 10 years legal experience, I am proficient in formulation, developing and implementing policies. In order to ensure the compliance with relevant laws, regulations, policies and rules, I draft, review and advice policies related to commercial, labor, intellectual property right, unfair-competition, compliance, for enterprises.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. As the district director, you are responsible for the district, which means you have to be responsible for every problem in the district. However, as a team leader, I have put my focus on mentoring the district officers, especially the program quality director, club growth director and division directors.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

The legalization of Toastmasters International in new markets is very important; I have provided many suggestions to the legalization of Toastmasters International in mainland China. My key strengths include: (1) the disciplined work ethic; (2) the willingness to listen and communicate; (3) the positive mind; and (4) able to navigate cross culture and legal between various parties.

Why do you want to serve as an international officer/director?

I believe in the vision and mission of Toastmasters International, and I want to serve members and practice continuously. In 2018, as the current district director of D85, I led my team to recruit 801 members within 40 days. Without the vision and mission of Toastmasters International, we could not make it.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

I have been the volunteer of YMCA Shanghai, China Charity Net, Charity Action. Currently, I am the volunteer for Sunshine Parents Salon, which is serving the parents with low income.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

I think the major objectives are changing. I agree with the 3-5 years goals and objectives released in the Strategic Plan 2015. Since this is the last year of the aforesaid plan, for the next 3-5 years, despite the club excellence and member achievement, I would like to propose one more major objective, which is the new markets expanding. Toastmasters International is developing very fast in the new markets, for example, within 14 years, District 85 has been reformed into District 89, 88, 118, and another 2 new districts in the recent 2 years. I have experienced the recent 8 years changes in the new markets, my understanding and management of the clubs in the new markets would help me to put my feet in the shoes of the new markets, and then I can provide a more comprehensive strategic plan to the board in achieving this goal.
