Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board member:

As a Sales Manager for a major manufacturer of medical ultrasound equipment, I was responsible for achieving targeted goals and increasing our customer base, as well as ensuring positive results for existing customers. Skills in listening, in negotiation, and in working towards consensus will help me as a Board member.

What experience do you have in strategic planning?

In my job and in volunteer roles I have worked with teams, making plans to meet the organization’s goals. This involved flexibility and negotiation to arrive at consensus, making adjustments as needed to keep pace with changes, and ensuring all outcomes were considered.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

In my role as President of the Home and School Association, our limited budget meant a close look at the organization’s needs and how we could use those funds to enrich student experience. As a medical sales rep I worked with customers and managers to meet the institution’s needs.

What experience do you have in developing policies?

My policy making experience was gained as President of my children’s school association as I worked with focus groups to develop policies for the organization. As District Governor, I worked with my team to review and implement district policies.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

One of the most important lessons I learned was how to bring out the best in the team, when to advise and when to take it a step further with a hands on approach. I learned to ask questions, to clarify, and seek understanding. When speaking, never assume your message is understood, be as clear as possible and then be open to questions.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

Having attended clubs in three counties, clubs in English, French, and Spanish, I have seen that we each bring something unique to the table and our diversity enriches our organization. I’ve been a Revitalized Education Ambassador in the early days of Pathways and a Pathways guide during the rollout. My sales and negotiation experience will help with reviewing policies and planning for the future.

Why do you want to serve as an international officer/director?

Because I treasure this great organization I desire to serve, I want to contribute all I can to strengthen and keep Toastmasters strong now and even stronger in the future.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

President of Home and School Association, 4 yrs; Committee Chair various committees, many years; Children’s Choir music Director, 2 years; Workshop Leader Emergency Room Ultrasound, 8 years; Medical Imaging Conference volunteer, 10 years.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.

I have served on many committees at work, at church, and in my community.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

Club growth, club excellence, and member achievement. As we continue to develop as the top choice provider of communication and leadership skills, we want to ensure our corporate values and mission are upheld as our programs advance our corporation worldwide. When we provide member experience with undeniable value, retention is accelerated. I will work to achieve this.
