Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board member:

I have owned and operated a real estate and lending company that relies on trust, expertise and serving our customers for 15 years. I have been a Chief Financial Officer, Controller and operations manager in companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 organizations, including turnaround firms. I have worked with Executives at all levels to guide companies to success.

What experience do you have in strategic planning?

As a business owner and CFO, I am responsible for planning, forecasting and working with my entire team to achieve short and long term goals. We identify, strengths, challenges, opportunities, and implement strategies necessary to achieve performance outcomes.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

My major is Finance. I have worked in accounting and finance and consciously use finance to assist my customers to make the best informed decisions possible. As a Business owner and CFO, my professional career has consisted of knowing how to understand and question financial information to make informed decisions.

What experience do you have in developing policies?

As a member of our executive team, I craft and review diverse policies to insure alignment with our strategic purposes. As business rules and regulations change, we adapt our policies to meet emerging needs and opportunities.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

Building and empowering a team minimizes individual shortcomings and magnifies positive outcomes. Confident, successful leaders teach, encourage, and inspire. I include all members to improve the entire organization while building additional leaders to ensure the organization continues to prosper for many years.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

I’ve been fortunate to work with many diverse people. One of my strengths is to build teamwork and trust with diverse people who may not always agree with me initially. As a board member, I listen carefully, ask questions and consider diverse viewpoints before making an informed decision.

Why do you want to serve as an international officer/director?

Toastmasters has given me more than I imagined was possible; my life has been changed forever. I want to repay that gift, to ensure that every member & guest in every corner of the world has the same opportunity, to join an organization that changes lives. I want to continue our legacy of service excellence through growing Toastmasters International opportunities around the world.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

I am on one of our Church committees and have been a member for over 15 years. I have been a member of Lions Club International and Rotary International.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.

Yes. My guiding principal is to represent the members, to contribute, ask questions, make recommendations that sustains and improves the organization. It is an honor and tremendous responsibility to make decisions that represent the entire organization. I’ve also learned, once the decision has been made, even if I privately disagree, to positively support the decision in public; the board has to publicly stand unified.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

Recruit younger members while respecting current experienced members. Balancing between using past leaders and their knowledge while offering new opportunities to new and future leaders. We must actively promote younger members to accept leadership roles and invite experienced leaders to help mentor them. We should highlight the value of experiential leadership development with a multicultural world.

Additional information about candidate:

Members primarily join Toastmasters to conquer our fear of speaking before a group or to improve our communication skills. In order to become an effective leader a person must be able to communicate effectively, this is our foundation and the reason Dr. Smedley created this great organization. These acquired skills provide the ability for us to go outside our clubs to achieve more than we thought was possible. I want to continue this legacy.
