Entering Canada—documents required for international travelers

If you are not a citizen of Canada or the United States of America, please click on this link to determine if you need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to travel to Canada. If you qualify for an eTA, please apply here.

If you require a letter of invitation, please click here to complete our request form. We will send your letter to the email address you provide within one week. If you have an urgent need, please complete the form and send an email to conventionregistration@toastmasters.org.

You are encouraged to submit your visa application well in advance of the event date at a Visa Application Centre or online via the Canadian Government website. Visa Application Centres provide a number of services including helping applicants fill out forms, answer questions and ensure that applications are complete. Using these services reduces unnecessary delays or refusals due to incomplete applications.

Note: please plan ahead as it can take up to 36 business days to process and application.

Airline reservations

The Star Alliance member airlines are pleased to be appointed as the official airline network for the 86th Annual Toastmasters International Convention.

Airport Information

Vancouver, British Columbia is serviced by Vancouver International Airport (YVR) which is located in Richmond, British Columbia, and is about eight miles from Downtown Vancouver. Almost all major domestic and international airlines can be found at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).


Airport ground transportation

Canada Line light-rail:
Hop on the Canada Line light-rail service at the airport. This train, built for the Olympics, will take you downtown in 30 minutes for $9 CAD. You can access trains from both the international and domestic terminals. For more information on the Canada Line, click here.

Taxi:
Taxi service is also easily accessible at the taxi stands located on Level 2 of the domestic and international arrival areas of Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The fare can range from $30 to $35 CAD, depending on the distance to your hotel. Cash and most major credit cards are accepted.

Rideshare:
Please note that rideshare services such as Lyft and Uber are not available in Vancouver.
