Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board Member:
My relevant work experience is sales and human resources. My sales experience relates to revenue generation, loss control, customer experience and customer satisfaction. My human resources experience relates to succession planning, compensation, team building and people development.
What experience do you have in strategic planning?
In my role as Manager Human Resources North America, I was a member of the Consumer Business Unit (1 billion revenue) that developed a strategic plan for sales, manufacturing, logistics and human resources. In my role as National Director for Bigger and Better Business (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.) I led an executive team that developed a strategy that coordinated external partnerships and the business activities for chapters (undergraduate and graduate) worldwide.
What experience do you have in the area of finance?
In my role as Manager Human Resource role I developed and managed a budget for six regional HR managers and sales training. In my role as District Manager Retail I developed and managed an annual budget for sales revenue, personnel and profit.
What experience do you have in developing policies?
In my role as Manager Human Resources I worked on teams that developed company wide human resources policies. In my role as International Director I reviewed and offered suggestions, if warranted, on policy present by the Executive Committee and World Headquarters.
What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?
1. Trained and motivated people are the lifeblood of any organization. 2. Associates, employees, and/or members will support an organization whose purpose benefits them. 3. Your people eat first.
What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?
I am willing to put in the the time necessary to get a job done. I am a willing listener. I share my opinion and expect feedback pro or con. I understand team dynamics and I am a team player. I seek opinions that are contrary to my own so I can be fully informed on a subject. I make decisions.
Why do you want to serve as an International Officer/Director?
I want serve as an International Officer to help develop the long term strategic outlook of our organization, oversee and direct our finances to benefit our global membership. I look forward to mentoring the international directors and be a voice for our members.
What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?
My volunteer experience is in my fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. We maintain a strong relationship with the American Cancer Society, Sickle Cell Disease Association of America and March of Dimes.
Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.
I was on the Board of Directors (Phi Beta Sigma) as theNational Director of Bigger and Better Business. In that capacity I led regional teams that promoted financial literacy, economic empowerment and business networking. I also led an executive team that developed a strategy that coordinated external partnerships and the business activities for chapters (undergraduate and graduate) worldwide.
In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?
Our purpose as stated in our bylaws outline our major objectives: Toastmasters International is the leading movement devoted to making oral communication a worldwide reality. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the acts of speaking, listening and thinking - vital skills that promote self actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind. I will help achieve our major objectives by asking, "Do our activities support our purpose?" If the answer is yes, continue. If no, re-evaluate.

I am a published writer with two books of poetry, a self help book and a spoken work jazz CD. I am an avid photographer and engage my six grandchildren - five girls and one boy as my models.
