As an International Director I had the privilege of working on our previous and current strategic plans.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

As a member of the Toastmasters board I reviewed, approved, and provided oversight of the Toastmasters International budgets and monthly financial reports. I have been involved in budgetary planning at the club level within Kiwanis International. What experience do you have in developing policies?

As a member of the Toastmasters International board, I had the opportunity to review, evaluate, and make recommendations for revisions to current policy to make them more relevant to the current and future needs of our members. Within AT&T, I have been involved in the development and implementation of policies based on corporate governance and project requirements.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

Some lessons that I have learned are that: 1. when leading a team you must also be an active member of the team, 2. the importance of understanding the difference between listening and hearing, 3. members of the team must be empowered to make decisions, 4. volunteers are more involved and successful when they are appreciated and know that they are making a difference, 5. every member of the team has a voice and it needs to be heard.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

As a Project Manager, I have served as a team lead and key contributor on numerous projects. I view and evaluate situations from a global perspective to ensure that the needs of all of our members are considered. Experienced in leading virtual and culturally diverse teams, experience that will prove valuable in leading and participating on various board committees. A committed servant leader who believes in helping others reach beyond their goals.

Why do you want to serve as an international officer/director?

I would like to continue my service to our organization for the following reasons: a) to remain actively involved with the current and future strategic planning of our organization, b) to be involved with developing innovative approaches to delivering on our brand promise, c) to ensure that we continually evaluate all projects from a global and cultural perspective, and d) to be an active voice on the board for our members.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

I have been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Norwalk, CT (Kiwanis International) for over 10 years and have served as club president and Division 25 Lt. Governor, equivalent to a Toastmasters Division Director. I also volunteer, in various capacities, with the Catholic War Veterans Post 1562 in Derby, CT, to serve our military veterans.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.

As a Lt. Governor for Kiwanis International, I was able to work with numerous members of the Board of Directors. This experience provided me insight on how the board prioritized issues and opportunities facing the organization. Then once prioritized how the strategic planning process was utilized to address them. A key learning from this experience was that the needs of the members and the mission of the organization must always be the number one consideration.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

Enhanced Leadership Development through: implementation of a defined leadership-mentoring program, utilizing 360-degree leadership feedback, and targeted training. Membership Growth, Inclusion and Retention: evaluate and implement membership options and programs that will allow "more members to achieve more". Increased transparency through timely, relevant communication with our members. Delivering on our tagline.
