Jana Barnhill, DTM, AS, PIP

Jana Barnhill, DTM, was Toastmasters’ 2008–2009 International President—only the fourth woman to serve as the organization’s top officer. A Toastmaster for 24 years, Jana served as an international director from 2002–2004. She has been named Outstanding Club President, Division Governor and District Toastmaster of the Year. She also is a past District 44 governor.

Jana has been recognized for her speaking skills as well, being a five-time winner of the District 44 International Speech Contest, and placing third in Toastmasters’ World Championship of Public Speaking in 1993 and second in 1996. In 1997, she earned Toastmasters’ Accredited Speaker designation, recognizing professional-caliber speaking skills.

Professionally, Jana is a speaker and trainer for L.I.V.E. Speakers, Inc., a company she owns with her husband, Robert, who is a DTM, AS and PIP. She conducts seminars throughout the United States on management topics, including communication and leadership, team building, change management and personality traits. She also serves as a speechwriter and coach to other professionals. She has written for various magazines, and was quoted in The Wall Street Journal following President Obama’s first inaugural address.

Jana belongs to three Toastmasters clubs: two in Lubbock, Texas, and one in Albuquerque, New Mexico.


Mark Brown, ATM, CL

Internationally acclaimed speaker Mark Brown is the 1995 World Champion of Public Speaking, having defeated more than 20,000 contestants from 14 countries. He has dedicated his career to delivering uplifting messages to people all over the world and is committed to continually inspiring people from all walks of life.

Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Mark immigrated to the United States at age 18 with $40 and a dream of a better life. He spent 15 years working as a computer analyst before choosing to develop his public speaking skills. After recovering from a life-threatening illness in 1993, he made a commitment to excel as a communicator. His commitment earned him a 1995 Harlem YMCA Black Achievers in Industry Award and, in the same year, the World Championship of Public Speaking title.

A member of the National Speakers Association, Mark delivers more than 200 presentations each year at conferences, symposiums, conventions and corporate meetings. Mark has been the subject of articles in several prestigious publications, including The New York Times and The San Diego Union-Tribune. He has also been featured in print and broadcast media in a wide range of countries. Mark’s purpose is threefold: to touch your head and make you think, to touch your heart and make you feel, to touch your hands and make you act.

Mark, an ATM, CL, is a member of the Macon Toastmasters club in Macon, Georgia.


Douglas Kruger, ATMS

Douglas Kruger, ATMS, is an author, motivational speaker and presentation skills coach based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He won his district’s International Speech Contest a record five times, and he placed second in Toastmasters’ 2004 World Championship of Public Speaking.

Douglas’s speaking style is entertaining, humorous and thought-provoking. He takes complex ideas and makes them come alive as simple, memorable principles. He delivers motivational presentations and training seminars for large organizations such as Vodacom, Old Mutual, Caltex and Revlon. He also coaches executives of major corporations.

Douglas has written three books on related to public speaking, expert positioning and leadership. His newest book, Own Your Industry: How to Position Yourself as an Expert, will be released in 2014. His articles have been published in Entrepreneur, Forbes and SALESGURU magazines. He has appeared on CNBC Africa and Good Morning Africa, and was interviewed by the South African radio stations SAfm and Radio 2000.


Lance Miller, DTM

Lance Miller, DTM, is the 2005 World Champion of Public Speaking. As a professional speaker, trainer and coach, he has delivered more than 4,000 speeches and seminars in 40 countries. He engages his audiences with a unique mix of talent and life experience that bring his messages to life.

Lance has worked as an executive for Nestle, Anheuser Busch and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee. He developed sales and marketing programs across various industries and started five businesses.

A Toastmaster since 1992, Lance is a Distinguished Toastmaster who has completed 23 Competent Communicator awards. He has held numerous club and district leader positions. In addition to the 2005 World Championship, he won both his district’s Evaluation and Table Topics contests three times.

Lance was instrumental in building his home club, Renaissance Speakers, in Hollywood, California, to No. 4 in the world with 95 members. The club has continued to be one of the top 50 clubs for the last 18 years.

Lance has presented training sessions on speaking and club leadership in more than 50 districts. He shares his Championship Club Series training materials with members around the world.


Florian Mueck, ACG

Florian Mueck joined Toastmasters in 2005 and public speaking has since become his passion. In 2009, he turned his passion into a successful profession under the FLORIAN MUECK brand. He offers communication seminars, presentation coaching, keynote speeches and event moderation to international companies in three languages: English, German and Spanish.

Born in Germany but based in Barcelona, Spain, Florian is the author of two books: The Seven Minute Star: Become a Great Speaker in 15 Simple Steps and PlusPlus: Patterns for Better Communication. He previously worked for almost a decade as a consultant and business development manager for KPMG, a global advisory firm.

In 2010, Florian gave a talk for TEDxBarcelona titled “Europe: How to Unleash a Common Spirit.” Since 2013, he has supported the TEDxBarcelona event organizers by coaching sessions for their speakers. He co-founded a biannual week-long event, called “The Festival. One Week, One Europe,” where anyone who feels European can get together and share the European spirit. He also collaborates with the IESE Business School in Barcelona.

Rory Vaden

Rory Vaden is a speaker, entrepreneur, consultant and author based in Nashville, Tennessee. An expert on the topic of procrastination, his message is always the same: “Success means doing the things we don't always want to do.”

Rory speaks to audiences about how to say no to the things that don’t matter, and yes to things that do. He speaks more than 50 times annually for organizations including Cargill, The Million Dollar Roundtable, Procter & Gamble and Wells Fargo Advisors. At age 23, he placed second in Toastmasters’ 2007 World Championship of Public Speaking. He is a member of the National Speakers Association.

Rory runs Southwestern Consulting, a multi-million dollar global research and training firm he co-founded. With locations in Nashville, San Francisco and London, his team comprises more than 50 coaches and consultants specializing in helping clients leverage data to drive performance.

His book, Take the Stairs: 7 Steps to Achieving True Success, is a Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestseller. His insights have been featured on major news media, such as CNN and Fortune and Fast Company magazines.
