Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board member:

Experience in Accounting/Finance, strategic planning, policy development that enables a Board Member to fulfill their fiduciary responsibility, participate in developing the five-year strategic plan and be instrumental in implementing new policies to ensure consistent organizational growth.

What experience do you have in strategic planning?

As a member of the finance division, I participate in providing financial analysis and forecasting for the five-year strategic plan. As a Board Member of Child-Parent Centers/Headstart (Headstart), I have been part of two strategic plans. Development, implementation and quarterly review to ensure the organization is meeting its goals and objectives outlined in their strategic plan.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

Thirty-five years of Accounting and Finance experience in areas of real estate, non-profit corporations, for-profit corporations, small business, tax preparation, audit, healthcare, and government. As Board Member of Headstart, I served as Treasurer for four years, Chair of Audit Committee for two years and was responsible for financial reporting to the board.

What experience do you have in developing policies?

As a business owner and Board Member of Headstart, I have developed policies.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

Looking back on my leadership journey, I realize leadership styles are situational. For long-term benefits, I have used coaching and mentoring to develop a member. However, there have been times when I have to be more direct to complete a task on time. Both are useful for different situations.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

I bring financial, business, and strategic acumen as well as years of prior board experience to our Board of Directors. My key strengths are grit, keeping a cool head – especially in the face of adversity, and a tenacious focus on the mission and goals of the member, the leadership teams, the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and the Organization. I am a good listener, a hard worker with a fair and open mind to hear all at the table. I bring a deep love for our organization and its members.

Why do you want to serve as an international officer/director?

To serve the members of Toastmasters International, participate in developing the 2020 Strategic Plan, collaborate with the knowledgeable International Directors of different regions, and share my financial experience and leadership skills.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

Volunteering has been a fulfilling part of my life. I began volunteering at my church as a janitor, secretary, Sick Committee, member of the Council Board, and church bakery. I served as a mentor for Math Moves You to mentor youth in math, and engineering, Love of Reading for Headstart, and as a chaperone for Cienega High School Art Club to study art in Italy and France; and Lions Club International to offer free diabetes screening, vision and hearing assistance.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters?

I have worked with: Tucson Girls Chorus Board of Directors which was a fundraising board and gave me fundraising experience. Board of Directors of Headstart for seven years as Treasurer, Chair of Audit Committee, Executive Board Member and Board President. I have not only gained an understanding of the role of a Board Member but also briefed Board Members on the Financial status of the organization; participated in succession planning; member of Recruitment Committee for Headstart CEO; participated in the development of policies and bylaws and two strategic plans. Serving on the board has fulfilling and rewarding because of its direct impact on the lives of children.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

In my opinion, Toastmasters International’s important objectives are developing Quality Clubs, membership growth, and sustainability. These objectives are attainable with the continuation and enhancement of the WOW Factor Program. A program enhancement would be the Toastmasters International leadership visiting struggling Districts 2 to 3 times per year to provide additional training and support. This action would not only help with the development of Quality Clubs but club sustainability. It is also important to equip District Leaders with tools to train club leaders on how to be more effective in marketing and outreach.

Enid is a resident of Tucson, Arizona, and has enjoyed hiking the Grand Canyon, Havasupai, and Tumamoc Hill. Her passion is early childhood development, community service, and personal development. Her mission is to inspire and empower the members of Toastmasters International to reach their goals.
