Community/Company Activities

Involvement in activities outside
of a Toastmasters club.


Toastmasters International provides opportunities for improved communication and leadership skills in a wide range of cultural, social and economic situations. Members are encouraged to engage in activities that are consistent with the organization’s mission and identity as an educational organization.

Cooperation with other organizations is encouraged so long as the identity of Toastmasters International is maintained. Such cooperation does not imply formal endorsement by Toastmasters International.

All contacts with other organizations at a national or international level will be made by the President, the Executive Director, or by someone specifically assigned by them.

Here are examples of allowable activities:

  • Membership in a Toastmasters club or Gavel club, participation in Speechcraft, the Youth Leadership program and other programs conducted by Toastmasters clubs. Adaptation, reprint or paraphrase of program materials prepared for public use by a member or club must be approved in advance by World Headquarters for content, corporate and copyright considerations
  • Establishment of and participation in speakers bureaus at club, area and district levels
  • Membership in the local chamber of commerce
  • Answering phones on telethons

Examples of activities not allowed:

  • Creation, promotion or sponsorship of service projects or activities, other than participation in telethons
  • Sponsorship or endorsement of other organizations’ causes or projects
  • Jog-a-thons, pancake breakfasts, barbeques, and other activities outside the club venue that have a high liability risk
  • Creation or engagement in any activity in the name of Toastmasters International that is not directly related to our purpose, such as:
    • fundraising drives in cooperation with other organizations
    • creation or establishment of scholarships or foundations
    • public service activities
  • Sponsorship of a speech contest or cooperation with any other organization without special permission of the Board of Directors.
