OCTOBER 2012

  • It's Not Too Late!

As you may know, October dues renewals were due October 1. There is still time to earn Distinguished Club credit. You can do so by submitting your club's renewals through the Toastmasters website by October 10. Begin by logging in, and then follow these simple steps:

    • Click Club Central (middle left of page).
    • Select the applicable club name and number (center of page).
    • Under Conduct Club Business, click Pay dues.

  • Treasurer's Report Due October 31

The Quarter One Treasurer's Report is due to World Headquarters October 31. Please notify World Headquarters once all accounts are reconciled through September so staff can make any necessary adjustments. Once the accounts are reconciled, you can complete the narratives and certification spreadsheet for submission. Also, as a reminder, your 2012-2013 district budget was due September 30. If you haven't already submitted it, please do so. For help, please contact districtfinancialreports@toastmasters.org.

District Conferences Are Approaching

Consider attending a district conference to gain valuable tips for your personal and professional development. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Toastmasters and to network with like-minded peers. Visit your district website for the date and time of your upcoming conference.

Mid-year District Leader Training

Toastmasters International provides essential training to help district leaders succeed. In January, seven Mid-year Training sessions will be held for district leaders in all regions. Details regarding dates, locations, venues and travel information are available at www.toastmasters.org/midyeartraining.

Area Governors: Conduct an Effective Club Visit

Help your clubs grow and maintain quality through club visits. Serving Clubs through Visits: A Guide for Area Governors (Item 219) can help you navigate the varied environments you'll encounter during these visits. Your support affects the future of clubs in your area and empowers club officers to help members achieve their goals.

Public Relations Officer Training Webinar

If you missed the public relations officer webinar held in September, don't worry, you can watch it on demand here. The informative session defines the public relations officer's role and responsibilities and provides helpful tips for generating publicity and executing successful communication plans.

The Form Library Offers Convenience

As a district leader, you'll need many forms and manuals throughout the year, ranging from the Area Governor's Club Visit Report (Item 1471) to the District Leadership Handbook (Item 222). The form library is a great resource for finding this material in one location.

Keep Your District on Track

Districts are required to submit reporting documents to World Headquarters throughout the year. If the reporting requirements are not met, the district cannot access its reserve account. In some cases, this may prevent your district from achieving Distinguished District recognition. Help your district stay on track by checking this webpage to review the requirements, forms and due dates.

Honor Your Sponsoring Organizations

Take the opportunity to help your corporate clubs honor their sponsoring organizations with Toastmasters corporate recognition awards. For details about these awards, please read the Guide to Corporate Visits (Item 128). To ensure timely delivery of your recognition items, please allow at least four weeks for processing and shipping.

E-Learning Program for Club Officers to Debut in November

Next month, base-level online training will be available to help incoming club officers prepare before beginning their new role. The program will explain their responsibilities and how officers can work together to create a successful club. Interactive sessions specific to each of the eight club roles will be offered. Additionally, a foundational session will provide an overview of how the different roles interact within a club and with the organization as a whole.

Consider posting the following information on your club's website or Facebook page, or including it in your club newsletter.
