Welcome to the first issue of The Leader Letter for Toastmasters International's 2013-2014 program year. Congratulations on your leadership position. Your contributions will help your district thrive. The Leader Letter is a monthly resource that delivers announcements, important information and deadline reminders to keep you in the know.


There are no club deadlines for the month of July.

Reporting Requirements Due July 15

District governors (DGs) must fulfill certain reporting requirements by July 15 in order to access the reserve account and place supply orders. Please send an email to as soon as possible with the following information:
  • A list of incoming district leaders
  • A direct link to your district online calendar of events
  • Area and division alignment changes (In June, DGs received a template from District Services for submitting alignment changes.)

District Governors: Pick Up Your Order at Convention

Between July 8 and July 26, incoming district governors can place product orders for pick up at the Convention Store on August 20. Tips for New Club Officers

To help you set club goals and keep track of progress, review the Distinguished Club Program and Club Success Plan (Item 1111). Also, be sure to visit Club Central where you can add new members, pay dues and submit education award applications.

World Headquarters sends a financial statement via email to club presidents and treasurers each month. To ensure delivery, please verify officer email addresses by following a few simple steps:
  • Click Club Central; enter user name and password
  • Click the club name and number
  • Under Conduct Club Business, click View/Update/Print my club membership roster

Welcome, New Leaders

Be an informed leader by familiarizing yourself with Toastmasters resources. The District Leader E-Toolkit contains valuable tools and information. Also, the District Leadership Handbook (Item 222) and the Toastmasters International District Recognition Program (Item 1490) will help you get the new program year off to a good start.

Get Ready for District Leader Training!

District Leader Training will be held August 19-20 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, prior to the 2013 Toastmasters International Convention. Please arrive no later than Sunday, August 18, and be ready to begin on Monday morning. To help you get the full benefit of your training experience, you will be assigned pre-work. Ambassadors Needed to Support the Revitalized
Education Program

Are you passionate about Toastmasters? Do you enjoy motivating, energizing and educating others? If so, you may be interested in contributing to the Revitalized Education Program as an Ambassador. Learn more about this opportunity and how to apply at

District Conference Supplies

Consider purchasing branded supplies for your October/November conference from the Toastmasters Online Store. This flier illustrates the range of customizable products available. If you plan to design a unique item, please follow the directions on the Brand Portal and submit all products, artwork or designs to for brand and trademark approval. Please allow up to two weeks for approval.

Assign Your Club Proxy

Toastmasters clubs hold the most important voting power in the organization. Make sure your club discusses and decides who will carry the club's vote to the Annual Business Meeting on August 24 at the International Convention. All club presidents and secretaries should have received an email from World Headquarters about proxy information. If you have not received an email, please contact District governors should follow up with club leaders and encourage them to designate their proxies if a club member will not attend the meeting. Cast Your Vote for Proposal A

Delegates attending the convention will have the opportunity to cast their club's vote regarding Proposal A: Amendments to the Club Constitution and the Standard Bylaws for Clubs of Toastmasters International. The Board of Directors recommends voting in favor of Proposal A. For more information about this important proposal, visit

Last Chance for Discounted Convention Registration and Hotel

Register for the 2013 Toastmasters International Convention by July 26 to take advantage of the early-bird rate. You also can receive a discounted hotel rate when you make a reservation by the same date.

Don't Miss Voice Expert's Keynote Speech at Convention

Roger Love, one of the world's leading authorities on voice, will deliver the keynote at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 Toastmasters International Convention on Wednesday, August 21. A voice coach to many actors and professional speakers, Love has written three top-selling books and created numerous audio programs on vocal power and influence.

Leadership Experts at Convention

Eleven experts will present insightful education sessions in August at the International Convention. Four of the speakers will focus on timely leadership topics:
  • Entrepreneur and author Sam Davidson will help attendees identify their passions and talents so they can use them to accomplish leadership goals.
  • Leadership expert Kent Maggard, a former professional athlete and banking executive, will explain how to lead and motivate anyone.
  • Vincent Ivan Phipps, a professional speaker and public speaking professor, will explain how to solve problems faster and adapt to various leadership styles.
  • Business author and consultant Scott Steinberg will share strategies for creating a culture of innovation where teams are empowered to embrace change.

Region Advisor Application Process Opens July 15

Do you want to be considered for the role of region advisor? Or would you like to encourage someone else to apply for this volunteer position? Online applications for the 2014-2015 program year will be available on the Toastmasters International website beginning July 15. Only electronic applications will be accepted.

New District Is Formed

Another Toastmasters district has grown so large that it was re-formed on July 1. Welcome District 44 in southeastern Georgia, which split from District 14 in Georgia.
