Lyle Appleyard, DTM
International Director, Region IV
Term of Office: 2008-2010
Lyle Appleyard, DTM, is a man who certainly enjoys his Toastmasters clubs. He belongs to four of them: the Quarry Toastmasters (located in the town of Stonewall in Manitoba, Canada), as well as the Talking Books, the Parliamentary Toastmasters and the Comedy Club, Eh?, all in Winnipeg in Manitoba. A Toastmaster for nearly 21 years, Appleyard found success in several district and regional leadership roles, eventually rising to become an international director with the encouragement of other regional leaders.
Appleyard, who lives in Stonewall, volunteers as a moderator for debates in local civic elections. He says Toastmasters has had a major impact on him. “When I joined Toastmasters, I was unable to speak in front of a crowd -- I had very little confidence,” he notes. “Now I am able to comfortably address a crowd.”
Appleyard’s hobbies include coin collecting, reading and woodworking.
