Identify and Achieve Your 2018 Goals
Learn how to discover and pursue what’s most important to you this year
Setting goals is important. Not only can it help you avoid being complacent, but it can also give you something to aspire to. Now that you’re at the mid-way point of the program year, ensure continued success in 2018 by using these tips to identify any additional goals you want to accomplish during your term.
Figure out what’s most important
Before you make your list of goals, take the time to think about what’s most important to your club, district or members this program year. What are the main issues you are facing, and how will you address them over the next six months?
Find your blind spots
Every leader, no matter how great, will miss important things if they rely solely on their own perspective. Consult your fellow club or district officers on what they think your goals should be, and utilize their point of view to ensure your list of goals is as comprehensive as possible. You can also consult your members! Make the focus of your next club meeting goal setting, and try incorporating ways to improve the member experience into a Table Topics® question.
Understand how your goals connect to the big picture
Once you’ve chosen your goals, one last thing to do is figure out how they relate to the larger goals of Toastmasters International. For club officers, how do your club goals tie-in to the district mission? District leaders, are your goals directly aligned with regional goals? And finally, how are your goals aligned with the organization’s envisioned future of being the first-choice provider of dynamic, high-value, experiential communication and leadership skills development?
Communicate your goals
Now that your goals are set and in line with the organization’s larger objectives, communicate them to your fellow club officers, district leaders and other members of your team. You should also consider creating and sharing a roadmap and timeline of when you expect each goal to be accomplished. Good luck!
