How does your experience relate to Toastmasters and the region advisor role:
My position of hotel general manager was a combination of managing my own property and serving as an area manager for six other hotels. I served as a mentor and guide for the management teams and helped to develop success and training plans for all the properties, which aligns with my view of the region advisor role. Above all, I feel that a region advisor needs to be a support and guide for the district leaders by developing a relationship of mutual trust and respect.
What is your experience with coaching individuals and/or teams? What key strengths do you bring to the district leaders?
Professionally, my main focus is to train and coach my employees to achieve their personal best, while maintaining given processes and procedures. It was easier when I hired the individual myself and could set expectations and training standards from the beginning. However, I was frequently taking over a hotel from another manager and had to coach employees who were set in their habits in the workplace; it was a delicate balance of support and guidance. I have high standards in all parts of my life, but when it comes to leading and coaching others, I will never ask or suggest that someone do something that I wouldn’t do. My training style is based on a history of excellence and a willingness to try again and again until I succeed. That is what I teach to those around me.
Why are you interested in serving as region advisor?
I am fortunate to have been mentored and guided by many positive Toastmaster influences and have grown especially close to the region advisors I have worked alongside. I want to be able to be the same guiding force to current and future leaders within the organization. I have seen the highs and lows, and I know what it takes to be successful. I have been in the trenches and love the organization more each day. I know the benefits that Toastmasters can provide, and that positive changes that can happen through hard work and dedication to the program. I feel that I can share the lessons I have learned, and continue to serve an organization that has helped me to become the person that I am.
