How does your experience relate to Toastmasters and the region advisor role:

As a leader in two volunteer ambulance organizations, I have demonstrated strong leadership, mentoring, coaching, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, often under extremely stressful conditions. I also learned the art of relationship building, both with patients and fellow volunteers. Toastmasters’ leadership has helped me refine and grow these skills even further by working with people with different approaches, styles, and temperaments. My professional background as a software developer gives me deep background in analysis and problem solving, as well as communication of complex ideas, facilitation, training, and mentoring. My tenure in Toastmasters, including my two candidacies for international director, combined with my passion for study and understanding of detail, has helped me gain a deep knowledge of our organization, including its programs structure, policies, processes and initiatives.

What is your experience with coaching individuals and/or teams? What key strengths do you bring to the district leaders?

As a Boy Scout leader and merit badge counselor, I worked with youth as a coach and mentor. As a volunteer EMT, CPR instructor and trainer, I coached many people through skills development and improved team performance. As an advanced martial arts practitioner, I taught technique as well as helped students prepare for testing and tournaments. I have had numerous coaching and mentoring opportunities because of Toastmasters as well, including working as a region advisor with district leaders to develop leadership skills, coaching to improve individual performance, and group sessions to resolve issues.

Why are you interested in serving as region advisor?

By nature, I am focused on service and improving the lives of those around me. Toastmasters has given me the skills to be a truly effective servant leader, and help others learn to do the same. Combined with my experience as a trainer and mentor, my knowledge of the Toastmasters program, and my background in conflict resolution and problem solving, I believe I can significantly help our next generation of leaders to grow and become successful. I also know that the intense experience of dedicating myself to this role will help me grow, too.
