How does your experience relate to Toastmasters and the region advisor role:
My experience in training, leadership, budgeting and as a project manager is very applicable to the region advisor role, and even more so now that I've been acting in that role in the 2017-2018 term. I believe my service will be supported by my knowledge of Toastmasters, skill in working with diverse groups of people, and success in supporting others. I also have been successful in solving difficult problems in order to help other Toastmasters succeed. I enjoy working with our leaders to support our members and I feel that I learn and grow from every experience.
What is your experience with coaching individuals and/or teams? What key strengths do you bring to the district leaders?
In the Air Force, I was regularly expected to coach and mentor my subordinates and others who were junior in rank. I am also trained and experienced in teaching coaching skills to others. As a Toastmaster, I've used these skills since I started in the area director role, helping club officers with their leadership development and through being district director. Since then, I have been asked to support my district’s teams each year in similar capacities with training, coaching and club building.
Why are you interested in serving as region advisor?
I believe in our organization. Toastmasters International develops critical leadership and communication skills while fostering teamwork among diverse cultures. I feel that my knowledge, strengths and experiences serves our organization to continue to grow and support our members worldwide. Additionally, I've had numerous opportunities to interact with the leaders throughout our organization, both at International Conventions and visiting districts in my home region. I'm really looking forward to teaming up with district leaders in 2018-2019!
