How does your experience relate to Toastmasters and the region advisor role:

Having studied and worked in the United States of America for 10 years and then moving back to my home country of India, I have embraced both the best of western work ethics and the cultural diversity of the east. My 14+ years of work experience has given me the ability to forecast potential issues and strategize based on the resources available on hand. Working in teams with diverse age groups, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds has given me a wealth of knowledge and different perspectives. These differences have been invaluable to me in building relationships, for insight, and innovation. It has also helped me in using logical thinking, keeping emotions aside, and weighing the costs and benefits to resolve problems for the larger good.

What is your experience with coaching individuals and/or teams? What key strengths do you bring to the district leaders?

To me, coaching a team requires clarity of what the final goal is and the set of objectives that are to be met in order to achieve that goal. Once I have this understanding, I list out what is required in terms of resources and the ability of the individuals comprising the team. I then map resources and individuals based on their current potential. During the process of achieving the goal, I continuously monitor and evaluate not only the status of the task but also the motivation level of the individual. This in turn helps me to clearly define both the success of the individual and also, the collective success of the team.

Why are you interested in serving as region advisor?

I am a true testimony of how Toastmasters can positively transform a person. I have gained not only confidence, but also success and recognition in both my professional and personal life, for which I will always be grateful to this organization. Having served in every elected district officer role there is, and leading a very young District 92 from its tenth-ranked position to being number one in the world, I bring to the table a lot of experience in developing and implementing operational strategies, leveraging technology, and people management. I would like to share this experience and knowledge by serving as region advisor, to enable and empower other districts and members in accomplishing Toastmasters’ mission and vision.
